Monsters & Dames 2010

I'm excited to announce that my piece, 'A Visit With Hades' has been selected as one of only 48 to appear as part of the Monsters & Dames benefit book being released at this year's Emerald City Comicon! This beautiful hardcover volume is a follow-up to last year's successful book, and will be limited to only 850 copies. Proceeds from sales of the book go to benefit the Seattle Children's Hospital, and I believe some of the original artwork from the book will also be available at auction during the Comicon. I'm happy to be able to be part of this great book with so many other excellent cartoonists and illustrators. And I hope to see you come up to ECCC so I can sign your copy!

Since my piece was selected for inclusion in the book, my back-up plan of offering prints for sale has been postponed, at least until after ECCC, but probably until they actually sell out of the book. So, the only way for you to get your own copy of 'A Visit With Hades' is to come up to Emerald City this March and buy a copy of this book!

The full details of the book and all the contributing artists (along with some preview images!) can be found right here!

CCA Pledge Drive has Begun!

The massive group-image that Lora Innes was putting together (and for which I donated a drawing of Ellie) in order to raise awareness about human trafficking has been released into the wild, and can be had at her site for a small donation to the cause. I'm really proud to have been a part of this project, now let's go show them what we can do!

Here's the post from Lora's blog, with more info about the drive and the wallpaper:

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." -Margaret Mead

Monday, January 11th is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. To participate, we formed the Comic Creator's Alliance--a group of over eighty comic book creators (both web and print) who volunteered our artistic talents to raise money and awareness for this cause. You may not know it, but there are currently 27 million enslaved people worldwide- more than double the number of enslaved Africans during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children every year are sold into slavery, most of it sexual. The US Department of Justice estimates 16,000 victims of human trafficking are brought into the United States every year. Unlike slavery in the 19th century, what is happening today is happening in secret. So it won't end until awareness is raised, and people like you and me take a stand.

So here's what we did: each creator contributed an original drawing of one of our own female characters, and combined them into a single wallpaper image. The wallpaper features characters from The Phoenix Requiem, Girls with Slingshots, Earthsong, Looking for Group, Shadowgirls, Marsh Rocket, The Uniques and three IDW Publishing titles: Fallen Angel, The Dreamland Chronicles and The Dreamer, and lots, lots more! Donate today to download this unique, once-in-a-lifetime wallpaper. The Donations Drive will last for two weeks, from January 11th - 24th. All proceeds will be split evenly between Love146 and Gracehaven House- two organizations working on rehabilitation of victims and prevention of this crime.

To learn more about the Comic Creator's Alliance visit www.comicalliance.weebly.com. To learn more about the problem, visit http://love146.org/slavery. (Note: contains adult themes and actual accounts of sex slavery.)

Progress: Jan. 4, 2010

After being away from my drawing table for the better part of two months, I finally had a good sit-down today and just finished scripting and laying out the next two pages of the book. Which makes me feel comfortable with my plan of having a new page finished by the end of the week! I'm not going to announce a date for new comics to arrive, but rest assured, they are on their way. It's the beginning of a transitional sequence with a good deal of exposition, discovering pieces of the puzzle, and travel which leads into the last big action sequence and page 32, which is my next big Milestone (being the end of the first quarter of the book!).

I'm hoping to continue scripting and laying out pages tonight, and to begin pencilling page 20 bright and sort-of-early tomorrow morning. One of my dreams for this year is to actually script the rest of the book all the way through, so that I won't have that delay anymore of not knowing what I'm going to be drawing next. Not that it's the only reason I haven't been able to work on a new page for the last several weeks, but it's one reason. Anyway, onward and upward!

Comics Creators' Alliance Pinup

A short while ago, fellow cartoonist Lora Innes sent out a call to action to any cartoonist interested in helping raise money to help put an end to the terrible tragedy of human trafficking in the United States, particularly the abduction and selling into sexual slavery of young girls. Her idea was to create a desktop wallpaper image featuring female characters from a bunch of different webcomics, which would then be sold as a fundraiser. I'm really proud to be even a small part of this project, and wanted to share my contribution with you all here, as a small thank you for being so patient with my lack of updates lately. I hope you enjoy the pic of Ellie, and urge you to consider donating to the cause on January 11th when the wallpaper will be available!

Holiday Shipping Deadline!

This is just a quick reminder, if you wanted to order anything from the Lunarbistro.com Holiday Sale and have it delivered before Christmas, Monday December 14th is the deadline! Tarot cards, t-shirts and all my comics are 20% off through the end of the year, but if you order by Monday you've got a much better chance at receiving your order in time for the christmas holiday. If you wanted something in time for Hanukkah, well, maybe next year!

I was delayed in shipping out orders that came in earlier this month, but they're all going out today, so don't worry, you should still receive it by the 24th or 25th. This note is only relevant for domestic U.S. orders - the intricacies of international shipping weren't covered in my correspondence course!
